Sweeney Todd, From Broadway Musical to Cinematic Masterpiece |
| 12/27/2007 7:39:38 PM |

When Sweeney Todd premiered back in the early 80's, it garnered some rave reviews, won a bunch of Tony awards, and then lost a pile of money because audiences just didn't get it at the time. I guess the 80s wasn't the right time for relentless dark, cynical musical about a murderous barber and his evil accomplice, who turned his victims into meat pies. Murder and cannibalism... Never been to a Broadway musical before? Broadway tickets can be a hefty price for shows like Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia, and Les Miserables.
1. Opening Night: During opening night for a Broadway musical, formal attire is preferred. During this night, much of Manhattan's society is present to view the play on opening night, especially if the play is in high demand and... Read More |

The Color Purple as a Broadway Musical |
| 12/15/2007 10:05:01 AM |
The Color Purple's most recent evolution into a Broadway musical has been successful. It opened on Broadway in 2005, and is now set to tour to Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Taking this serious piece of literature from book to movie, and now to stage and music is the accomplishment of Scott Sanders, who took eight years to create this as a Broadway musical.

Top it all off with a Broadway musical. |
| 12/10/2007 10:22:32 PM |

I can't believe the number of people that I know that go to New York and don't go to a Broadway Musical! To me, that would be like taking a vacation and a cruise to the Caribbean, and never getting in that beautiful, warm, clear water. What a waste that would be, and to me, what a waste it is to make the sojourn to New York and not attend a Broadway musical. I mean,... Read More |

Broadway Musical: Camelot |
| 12/6/2007 1:31:16 PM |
|
I thought Camelot was an outstanding movie! It was a remake of the original Broadway musical using a different cast. I felt that Richard Harris did a far better job than Richard Burton. Although Richard Harris spoke many of his lines, I thought his interpretation of the soul of Arthur was amazing. I think that Vanessa Redgrave did almost as well as Julie Andrews or Meg... Broadway Musicals are Timeless |
| 11/26/2007 10:11:20 AM |

I loved Wicked but my favorite Broadway musical of all time is Hello Dolly. I know its old fashion when you compare it to Rent but it has all the aspects that a good Broadway musical needs to leave to a fan satisfied.
First, the music is wonderful. It Takes a Moment is one of its best lesser known pieces and of course, Hello Dolly is unforgettable. This one is used... Read More with Video |

Wicked is a great broadway musical not to be missed |
| 11/21/2007 2:01:53 PM |
|
I love Broadway musicals and I really liked Wicked. I saw this Broadway musical in Chicago recently and fell in love with the sets and the special effects. The music was good, but not as great as many other Broadway musicals. Unlike Cats, Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, or even A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum where you leave the theater humming a... Read More with Video |

GERSHWIN'S BROADWAY MUSICAL
I just had the opportunity to go to the Arizona Broadway musical dinner Theatre at Arrowhead to see Gershwins "Crazy for You". The facility was beautiful and I completely enjoyed every minute. Everyone sings, everyone dances, and anything on hand is used to make music. The plot is from the 1930s musical, Girl Crazy, with an energetic cast, a... Read More |
